There are many idioms in Spanish that express the same idea as not judging a book by its cover:
•
LAS APARIENCIAS ENGAÑAN - Appearances are deceiving.
•
EL HÁBITO NO HACE AL MONJE - The cowl does not make the monk.
•
CARAS VEMOS, CORAZONES NO SABEMOS - Faces we see, hearts we don’t know.
=====================
A few years ago I saw on TV a piece about a bookstore that sells books wrapped in craft paper to avoid people from judging a book by its cover and it occurred to me to do just the opposite 🙃
•
I always went for the same authors and the same subjects/themes, so why not get out of my comfort zone and just choose a book by its cover?
•
And so my adventures began, I have chosen many books that I would have not chosen otherwise, some have been great and it would have been a shame not to have read them and some, well, not so great :) but that’s part of the fun.

Imagine me gone is my latest adventure, so far an interesting decision about love and loss and family... =====================
Have you ever chosen a book in this way? Am I the only one?

Happy reading y hasta pronto,

Debbie

This cold made me think of MANTENER and GUARDAR. They both translate as to keep, the difference is that MANTENER keeps something as is and GUARDAR keeps something safe/away/inside a place.
•
MANTENGO la calefacción prendida en el invierno - I keep the furnace on during the Winter.
•
GUARDO mis documentos en un lugar seguro - I Keep my documents in a safe place.

Try it out, it will keep you warm 😃

¿Cómo le agradeces a alguien que no conoces? - How do you thank someone you don’t know?

This post will be in English because it’s a “thank you wherever you are in Toronto” post.

Those of you that read my Instagram post yesterday know that I left my wallet inside a TTC (Toronto Transit Comission) bus on Sunday.
If you have ever lost anything valuable to you, then you know how I was feeling Sunday night.

To make a long story short, today is Wednesday and not only do I have my wallet back, I got it back with EVERYTHING (Cash included) that was in it.

Because of privacy concerns I am not allowed to know who was responsible for finding and delivering my wallet to the lost articles office.

So, how do you thank someone when you don’t know who they are? As a wise man told me recently, You pay it forward, (pasas el favor) and that is exactly what I did in a small way 😊

There is a big number of people going hungry in Toronto every day, so I used the money that I thought I had lost with my wallet to buy needed food items for the daily bread food bank and delivered them to my closest fire station and I will aim to do the same once a month. (Huge thank you too to the firefighters for the amazing work they do everyday and for being such great troopers with this). To my dear stranger, If by any chance you see my post and you recognize my wallet, thank you from the bottom of my heart!

In a world that seems to be full of bad news it’s great to be able to share a story that shows that there are still good and honest people everywhere. @boom973toronto @stujeffries1 •
Now, we have to talk language a bit right? Do you know how to say “PASA EL FAVOR” PAY IT FORWARD in any other language?
•
The movie Pay it forward was translated into Spanish as “Cadena de favores” which literally means chain of favours 💜

Hasta pronto,

A very thankful Debbie

El domingo dejé mi cartera en un autobús público, me di cuenta 5 minutos después y cuando regresé ya se había ido. - Sunday I left my wallet in a public bus, when I returned it had left already.
•
Con una empleada de la estación, reportamos mi cartera esperando que un buen samaritano se la diera al chofer o que él la encontrara al revisar el autobús al final de la ruta. - with the help of an employee at the station we reported my lost wallet hoping that a Good Samaritan would return it to the driver or that he would find it at the end of his route.
•
¿Has perdido tu cartera? Si sí, sabes lo que estaba sintiendo en ese momento - have you lost your wallet? If so, you know what I was feeling at the time.
•
¿Qué crees que pasó?
What do you think happened?
If you want give it a try in the comments (try using Spanish).
I’ll let you know tomorrow 😃
